Angel (1960 TV series)
Angel was an American situation comedy that aired on CBS from 1960 to 1961. It starred Annie Fargé as Angel Smith, a young French woman married to an American architect, John Smith, played by Marshall Thompson. The show revolved around Angel's well-meaning but often misguided attempts to assimilate into American culture and her often humorous misunderstandings stemming from cultural differences and language barriers.
The series was created by Jess Oppenheimer, who had previously been the head writer and producer of I Love Lucy. Angel shared some similarities with I Love Lucy in its comedic style and focus on a somewhat scatterbrained wife causing trouble for her more level-headed husband. However, Angel never achieved the same level of popularity.
The show lasted for two seasons, totaling 33 episodes. The supporting cast included Doris Singleton as Susie, the Smiths' neighbor, and Don Keefer as George, John's business partner. While not a major hit, Angel is remembered as a lighthearted sitcom of the early 1960s that explored themes of cultural assimilation and marital life.
