Walther Kittel

Walther Kittel (1887-1971) was a German general during World War II. He held several command positions on both the Eastern and Western Fronts. Kittel began his military career in the Prussian Army prior to World War I and continued to serve in the Reichswehr during the interwar period.

During World War II, Kittel commanded the 216th Infantry Division from 1941 to 1943, participating in operations on the Eastern Front, including the Battle of Moscow. He was later transferred to the Western Front where he commanded several divisions, including the 326th Infantry Division.

Kittel was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross in 1943. He was eventually captured by Allied forces and held as a prisoner of war. Following his release, he lived in West Germany until his death in 1971. His career highlights his involvement in significant military campaigns of World War II.
