Vorzel
Vorzel is a town located in the Kyiv Oblast (region) of Ukraine. Situated northwest of Kyiv, it forms part of the Bucha Raion (district).
Vorzel is known as a historic settlement, having been founded in 1900. It gained prominence as a resort town, owing to its scenic location featuring forests and the proximity to Kyiv. This made it a popular destination for sanatoriums and dachas (summer cottages) during the Soviet era.
The town experienced significant impact during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, suffering considerable damage and civilian casualties as a result of military conflict. Its location along key routes into Kyiv made it a site of intense fighting. Following the retreat of Russian forces, evidence of war crimes and atrocities was uncovered in Vorzel and surrounding areas.
As of the latest available data, Vorzel is in the process of recovering and rebuilding from the damages sustained during the invasion. Efforts are underway to restore infrastructure and provide support to the affected population.
