Iztacalco

Iztacalco is one of the 16 boroughs (demarcaciones territoriales) of Mexico City. It is located in the east-central part of the city, and is the smallest of the boroughs.

Iztacalco is largely urbanized, consisting primarily of residential areas, industrial zones, and commercial districts. It is characterized by a relatively flat topography and a high population density.

The borough has a rich history, dating back to pre-Hispanic times. The name "Iztacalco" comes from the Nahuatl language and is interpreted to mean "in the house of salt" or "place of salt." This refers to the historical extraction of salt from the saline waters of Lake Texcoco, which once covered a larger area than it does today.

Iztacalco is home to several landmarks, including the Palacio de los Deportes (Sports Palace), the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez (a racetrack used for Formula One events), and the Foro Sol (an outdoor concert venue). It also contains numerous parks and green spaces, though fewer than other boroughs of Mexico City.

Administratively, Iztacalco is divided into colonias (neighborhoods). It faces similar challenges to other parts of Mexico City, including issues related to infrastructure, traffic congestion, and environmental concerns. The local government is responsible for providing services such as public safety, sanitation, and urban planning.
