Halloween (band)
Halloween is an American heavy metal band formed in Detroit, Michigan, in 1983. While initially associated with the burgeoning thrash metal scene, they are often categorized as power metal or traditional heavy metal.
The band was founded by guitarist Rick Craig and vocalist Brian Thomas. Their sound is characterized by Thomas's high-pitched vocals, Craig's intricate guitar work, and a focus on horror-themed lyrics, a thematic choice that contributed to the band's name.
Halloween released several demos in the mid-1980s before signing with Metal Blade Records. Their debut album, Don't Metal with Evil, was released in 1985. The album showcased their signature blend of melody and aggression, establishing them as a notable act in the underground metal scene.
In 1986, they released their second album, Tales from the Crypt, which further solidified their horror-themed lyrical approach and gained them a larger following. However, internal conflicts and disagreements with Metal Blade Records led to a period of inactivity.
The band experienced various lineup changes and periods of hiatus throughout the late 1980s and 1990s. However, Rick Craig remained a constant presence, striving to keep the band's legacy alive.
In the 2000s, Halloween underwent a revival, with Craig reforming the band with new members. They released new material, including the album Evil Never Dies in 2006, demonstrating their continued commitment to their signature sound.
Halloween continues to perform and record music, maintaining a dedicated fanbase that appreciates their blend of traditional heavy metal, power metal elements, and horror-inspired themes. Their earlier work is considered influential within the underground metal community.
