The station's studios are located on Reynolds Street in downtown Augusta, and its transmitter is located in Beech Island, South Carolina.

Originally an independent station, WAGT joined NBC in 1968. It was previously owned by various entities, including Schurz Communications. Gray Television acquired WAGT as part of its acquisition of Schurz's broadcasting assets.
