Vinger (municipality)

Vinger is a former municipality located in the Innlandet county, Norway. It was situated in the traditional region of Glåmdalen.

History

Vinger was established as a municipality on January 1, 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). It existed as an independent municipality until January 1, 1964, when it was merged with Brandval to form the new Kongsvinger municipality. At the time of the merger, Vinger had a population of 6,392.

Geography

The area of the former Vinger municipality is largely rural, characterized by forests and agricultural land. It lies to the north and east of the town of Kongsvinger.

Notable Features
