Van Wijk (crater)
Van Wijk is a lunar impact crater that lies on the far side of the Moon, beyond the limb as seen from the Earth. It is located to the southeast of the Mare Ingenii, in a region of the lunar surface that is poorly mapped.
The crater is roughly circular in shape, with a somewhat eroded outer rim. A smaller, bowl-shaped crater lies across the eastern rim of Van Wijk, and a few other tiny craterlets mark the inner walls and floor. The interior is relatively level and featureless, with no significant central peak. The crater is likely of Nectarian age.
Van Wijk is named after Jan van Wijk, a Dutch astronomer (1926-1976).
