Sangha Department (Republic of the Congo)
The Sangha Department is one of the departments of the Republic of the Congo. Located in the northwestern part of the country, it is bordered by Cameroon to the north, the Central African Republic to the northeast, Likouala Department to the east, Cuvette-Ouest Department to the south, and Gabon to the west. The department is named after the Sangha River, which flows through it.
The capital of Sangha Department is Ouésso. Other notable towns and villages include Mokeko and Sembé. The economy of the Sangha Department is largely based on forestry, agriculture, and subsistence farming. The region is known for its dense rainforest, contributing to the nation's timber resources.
The population density is low, reflecting the predominantly rural nature of the department and the challenges of accessibility due to the terrain. Infrastructure is limited, which poses challenges for economic development and the delivery of social services. The Sangha Department, along with other regions in the Republic of the Congo, has seen efforts toward conservation of its rich biodiversity, particularly its rainforest ecosystems and wildlife.
