VA-176 (U.S. Navy)
VA-176 was a United States Navy attack squadron. It was originally established as Torpedo Squadron VT-17 on 1 January 1943, redesignated as Attack Squadron VA-17A on 15 November 1946, then as Attack Squadron VA-176 on 1 July 1948. The squadron was disestablished on 10 March 1969.
Throughout its history, VA-176 flew various aircraft, including the TBF Avenger, SB2C Helldiver, AD-1 Skyraider, AD-4 Skyraider, A-1H Skyraider, and A-4C Skyhawk.
VA-176 was involved in numerous deployments and participated in combat operations during the Korean War and the Vietnam War. The squadron earned several awards and commendations for its service. The squadron's callsign was "Thunderbolts."
The unit was based at multiple locations during its active service, including Naval Air Station Cecil Field, Florida, and Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Florida.
