Bangladesh Krishak Sramik Awami League (1983–1991)

The Bangladesh Krishak Sramik Awami League (BKSAL) (1983-1991) was a political party in Bangladesh, a revival of the original BKSAL formed in 1975 by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. This iteration of the BKSAL was led by Abdur Rab and operated primarily during the period of military rule under Hussain Muhammad Ershad.

The party advocated for a socialist and secular political and economic system, drawing upon the principles of the original BKSAL. However, unlike the original BKSAL, which was intended to be a single national party, this later BKSAL operated within a multi-party system, albeit one significantly constrained by martial law and military influence.

The BKSAL of the 1980s participated in various political movements and alliances against the Ershad regime, seeking to restore democracy and constitutional rule in Bangladesh. It generally aligned itself with other opposition parties, including the Bangladesh Awami League led by Sheikh Hasina, in efforts to pressure the government to hold free and fair elections.

While the party's impact on national politics during this period was arguably limited due to the overarching dominance of the military regime and the fragmentation of the opposition, it represented a continuation of socialist political thought and a commitment to the legacy of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The party ceased to be a significant political force after the restoration of democracy in 1991.
