USS Trippe (DD-33)

USS Trippe (DD-33) was a United States Navy destroyer of the Paulding class. She was named for Lieutenant John Trippe, a hero of the First Barbary War.

Trippe was laid down on 5 January 1910 by Bath Iron Works, Bath, Maine, launched on 17 May 1910, sponsored by Miss Mary W. Trippe, a descendant of Lieutenant Trippe, and commissioned on 23 October 1910, Lieutenant Commander Thomas P. Magruder in command.

Following shakedown, Trippe joined the Atlantic Torpedo Fleet, participating in exercises and fleet maneuvers along the East Coast and in the Caribbean. During World War I, Trippe served on patrol and convoy duty, escorting ships along the U.S. Atlantic coast and in European waters. She also participated in anti-submarine patrols.

After the war, Trippe was decommissioned on 10 March 1920 and sold for scrap on 8 September 1920. Her service life was relatively short, characteristic of the early destroyers that quickly became obsolete due to rapid technological advancements in naval warfare. She received no battle stars for her service.
