Çukurova

Çukurova is a large, fertile plain in southern Turkey. It is one of the largest agricultural regions in the country and is known for its cotton production, as well as other crops such as wheat, citrus fruits, and soybeans. Geographically, it encompasses the provinces of Adana, Osmaniye, and parts of Mersin and Hatay.

The plain is formed by the alluvial deposits of the Seyhan and Ceyhan rivers, which flow down from the Taurus Mountains to the north. These rivers provide vital irrigation for the agricultural lands. The climate is Mediterranean, with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters, which is conducive to a long growing season.

Historically, Çukurova has been inhabited since ancient times and has been a crossroads of various civilizations, including the Hittites, Persians, Romans, Arabs, and Ottomans. The region has been known by different names throughout history, including Cilicia. Its strategic location has made it a significant region for trade and military control.

Çukurova's economy is heavily reliant on agriculture, but industry, particularly textile manufacturing and food processing, also plays a significant role. The city of Adana is the largest urban center in the region and serves as a major commercial and transportation hub.
