USS Ray
The USS Ray refers to two separate submarines that served in the United States Navy. Both were named after the ray, a cartilaginous fish.

USS Ray (SS-271): A Gato-class submarine that served during World War II. Commissioned in 1943, she conducted numerous war patrols in the Pacific Theater, achieving significant success in sinking enemy vessels. She earned nine battle stars for her service. The SS-271 was decommissioned in 1953 and sold for scrap in 1960.

USS Ray (SSN-653): A Sturgeon-class nuclear-powered attack submarine. Commissioned in 1967, she served throughout the Cold War, conducting various missions related to anti-submarine warfare and intelligence gathering. The SSN-653 was decommissioned in 1993 and subsequently scrapped through the Navy's Ship-Submarine Recycling Program.
