USS Persistent (PYc-48)

The USS Persistent (PYc-48) was a United States Navy coastal patrol yacht in commission from 1942 to 1946. Built as the civilian yacht Arlis in 1930, she was acquired by the Navy under a bareboat charter from her owner, Alfred L. Loomis, in November 1941 and commissioned as USS Persistent (PYc-48) on 16 January 1942.

Persistent primarily served as a patrol craft along the United States East Coast during World War II, tasked with anti-submarine warfare and coastal defense duties. Her area of operation included the waters off New England and the Mid-Atlantic states. She performed escort duties for coastal convoys and conducted independent patrols searching for enemy submarines.

Following the end of World War II, USS Persistent was decommissioned on 8 February 1946 and returned to her owner. Her name was struck from the Navy List on 26 February 1946. She subsequently reverted to her original name, Arlis, and continued to serve as a private yacht. Her ultimate fate is not widely documented.
