Willie Mitchell (ice hockey)
Willie Mitchell (born April 23, 1977) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman. He played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the New Jersey Devils, Minnesota Wild, Dallas Stars, Vancouver Canucks, Los Angeles Kings, and Florida Panthers.
Mitchell was known for his physical play, defensive acumen, leadership qualities, and shot-blocking ability. Undrafted, he signed with the New Jersey Devils in 1996 and made his NHL debut in 1999. He played in over 900 NHL games and won the Stanley Cup with the Los Angeles Kings in 2012.
Throughout his career, Mitchell was a respected leader, serving as captain for the Vancouver Canucks and the Florida Panthers. Following his playing career, he has been involved in various business ventures and outdoor recreational pursuits. He officially retired from professional hockey in 2016 due to lingering effects from concussions.
