Jim Toohey (politician)
Jim Toohey (born August 28, 1944, died August 14, 2011) was an Australian politician who served as a Labor member of the New South Wales Legislative Council from 1988 to 2007.
Toohey was born in Sydney and educated at St. Mary's Cathedral College. Before entering politics, he worked as a trade union official with the Federated Miscellaneous Workers' Union of Australia (FMWU).
In the Legislative Council, Toohey served on a number of committees, including the Standing Committee on State Development and the General Purpose Standing Committee. He was known for his advocacy on behalf of workers' rights and environmental protection. He also played a significant role in debates related to industrial relations and occupational health and safety.
Toohey retired from the Legislative Council in 2007. He died in 2011 at the age of 66. His passing was marked by tributes from across the political spectrum, acknowledging his commitment to public service and his contribution to the Parliament of New South Wales.
