USS Owen
The USS Owen (DD-536) was a Fletcher-class destroyer of the United States Navy, named for Elias K. Owen, a Marine Corps officer who was killed in action during the Battle of Belleau Wood in World War I.
Commissioned in 1943, the USS Owen served in the Pacific Theater of World War II. She participated in numerous campaigns, including the Marianas Islands campaign, the Battle of Leyte Gulf, and the Battle of Okinawa. Her duties included anti-aircraft screening, shore bombardment, and radar picket duty.
Following World War II, the USS Owen continued to serve in the Navy, participating in various exercises and deployments. She was decommissioned in 1962 and struck from the Naval Vessel Register. The ship was subsequently sold for scrap.
The USS Owen earned multiple battle stars for her service during World War II, recognizing her contribution to the war effort in the Pacific.
