USS Annapolis (SSN-760)
The USS Annapolis (SSN-760) is a Los Angeles-class nuclear-powered fast attack submarine in the United States Navy. She is the second ship to be named for Annapolis, Maryland, home of the United States Naval Academy.
Annapolis was ordered on 6 February 1987 and her keel was laid down on 15 June 1988 by Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company, Newport News, Virginia. She was launched on 18 August 1990 and commissioned on 20 April 1991.
As a Los Angeles-class submarine, Annapolis's primary missions include anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, strike warfare, intelligence gathering, and surveillance. She is equipped with Mark 48 torpedoes and Tomahawk cruise missiles, which can be launched from her torpedo tubes and vertical launch system (VLS).
