Tormented (1960 film)
Tormented is a 1960 American horror film directed by Bert I. Gordon. The story revolves around Tom Stewart (Richard Carlson), a jazz musician living on a remote island, who is preparing to marry Meg Hubbard (Juli Reding).
Shortly before the wedding, Vi Mason (Susan Gordon), a jealous former lover of Tom's, falls to her death from a lighthouse after an altercation with a carnival worker, Sandy (Joe Turkel). Tom witnesses the incident and, pressured by Sandy, does not attempt to save her. Vi's vengeful spirit then begins to haunt Tom, creating illusions and physically tormenting him as she seeks revenge for her death and his inaction.
As the wedding day approaches, the ghostly Vi becomes increasingly powerful and determined to prevent the marriage. She uses her spectral abilities to manipulate the environment and terrorize the island residents, ultimately endangering Meg. Tom must confront Vi's supernatural wrath and find a way to break free from her torment before she destroys his future.
The film is known for its low-budget special effects and its focus on psychological horror, rather than explicit gore. It is considered a minor cult classic within the horror genre. The film's themes include guilt, revenge, and the power of the supernatural.
