Tom Hughes (1950s pitcher)
Thomas Edward Hughes (born January 25, 1933, in Detroit, Michigan, died January 13, 2013, in Farmington Hills, Michigan) was a right-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball who played briefly for the St. Louis Cardinals in 1958.
Hughes attended Wayne State University before signing with the Cardinals organization. He appeared in just two games for the Cardinals, both in relief. His major league debut was on September 19, 1958, against the Los Angeles Dodgers. He pitched a total of 2 1/3 innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits, walking two, and striking out one. His career earned run average was 7.71.
After his brief major league career, Hughes continued to pitch in the minor leagues. His professional baseball career spanned several years, primarily in the Cardinals' farm system. He eventually left professional baseball and pursued a career outside of sports.
