Tito Scaiano

Tito Scaiano (born October 12, 1944, in Buenos Aires, Argentina) is an Argentine-Canadian scientist, known for his contributions to photochemistry and physical organic chemistry. He is particularly recognized for his work on the development and application of laser flash photolysis techniques for studying reactive intermediates in chemical reactions.

Scaiano received his Ph.D. from the University of Ottawa and pursued postdoctoral research at the National Research Council of Canada. He then joined the faculty at the University of Ottawa, where he has held various positions, including Distinguished Professor of Chemistry.

His research has focused on understanding the mechanisms and kinetics of photochemical reactions, with a particular emphasis on the role of free radicals, carbenes, and other short-lived species. He has made significant contributions to the understanding of photoinduced electron transfer reactions, photochemical reactions in micelles and microemulsions, and the photochemistry of organic compounds in solution.

Scaiano has received numerous awards and honors for his research, including the Chemical Institute of Canada Medal. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry. He has also served on the editorial boards of several leading chemistry journals.
