High Ice (film)

High Ice is a 1955 American Cold War adventure film directed by Henry Helgeson and starring John Ericson, Dolores Donlon, and Philip Ahn. The film is notable for being one of the first films produced in CinemaScope.

The plot revolves around an American Air Force pilot, Lt. David Moore (John Ericson), who is forced to crash land near the Arctic Circle. He and his crew are rescued by a group of Eskimos, but they soon discover that a downed Soviet aircraft is also in the area. The film follows their efforts to recover sensitive radar equipment from the Soviet plane before the Soviets can retrieve it themselves, all while battling the harsh Arctic environment.

High Ice features themes of international tension during the Cold War and portrays the challenges of survival in extreme conditions. It also explores the relationship between the American airmen and the indigenous Eskimo population. While considered a B-movie, it is remembered for its use of the CinemaScope wide-screen format to capture the stark beauty of the Arctic landscape and for its depiction of Cold War paranoia.
