Francis Evans (diplomat)

Sir Francis Brooks Richards Evans KCMG, KBE (17 December 1897 – 24 June 1983) was a British diplomat.

Evans was educated at Eton College and Magdalen College, Oxford. He entered the Diplomatic Service in 1921.

His postings included:

  • 1921-1925: Served in Berlin.
  • 1925-1931: Served in Washington, D.C.
  • 1931-1934: Served in the Foreign Office.
  • 1934-1937: Served in Addis Ababa.
  • 1937-1940: Served in Belgrade.
  • 1940-1945: Head of the Political Warfare Executive's Balkans Section.
  • 1945-1947: Assistant Under-Secretary of State, Foreign Office.
  • 1947-1953: Ambassador to Israel.
  • 1953-1957: Ambassador to Argentina.

He was appointed Knight Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George (KCMG) in 1946 and Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire (KBE) in 1957.

Evans retired from the Diplomatic Service in 1957. He died in June 1983 at the age of 85.
