Thomas Cox (politician)

Thomas Cox (born April 28, 1941) is an American Democratic politician from New York. He served in the United States House of Representatives from 1969 to 1979, representing New York's 16th congressional district.

Cox was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He graduated from Princeton University in 1963 and from Harvard Law School in 1967. Prior to his congressional service, he worked as a lawyer.

During his time in Congress, Cox was known for his liberal views and his advocacy for environmental protection and consumer rights. He served on the House Committee on Banking, Finance and Urban Affairs and the House Committee on Interstate and Foreign Commerce. He was a strong supporter of mass transit and introduced legislation to improve rail service.

Cox chose not to seek reelection in 1978 and returned to the practice of law.
