HD 171238

HD 171238 is a G-type main-sequence star located approximately 164 light-years away in the constellation Lyra. It is similar to our Sun in terms of spectral classification, mass, and temperature, although it is slightly more massive and luminous.

The star is notable for hosting at least one confirmed extrasolar planet, HD 171238 b, a gas giant discovered in 2001 by the radial velocity method. The planet has a minimum mass of approximately 2.6 Jupiter masses and orbits the star at a distance of about 1.3 astronomical units (AU) with an orbital period of around 1359 days.

HD 171238 is also known by other designations, including HIP 90985 and SAO 68586. The star's coordinates are approximately Right Ascension 18h 32m 15.48s and Declination +30° 57' 47.5".

Observations of HD 171238 and its planetary system contribute to our understanding of planetary formation and the diversity of exoplanets beyond our solar system. Further research may reveal additional planets or provide more precise measurements of the existing planet's characteristics.
