HMS L54
HMS L54 was a British L-class submarine built for the Royal Navy during World War I. The L class were designed as improved versions of the earlier E-class submarines, intended to have greater speed and endurance, as well as heavier armament.
L54 was ordered on 23 February 1917 and laid down on 14 July 1917 at the Fairfield Shipbuilding and Engineering Company shipyard in Govan, Scotland. She was launched on 29 May 1918 and commissioned on 26 November 1918, shortly after the end of the war.
Due to the cessation of hostilities, L54's wartime service was brief. Like many submarines of her time, her postwar service consisted mainly of fleet exercises and training. Details regarding her specific operational deployments after the war are scarce.
The L54 was eventually sold on 20 February 1935 and broken up for scrap. Her career, while not marked by significant events, reflects the role played by many submarines of the era in supporting the Royal Navy's presence and maintaining maritime security.
