A Tauri

A Tauri refers to a human inhabitant of the planet Tau'ri in the science fiction television series Stargate SG-1 and its related franchise. "Tau'ri" is a Goa'uld word meaning "first ones" or "those of the first world," and it is the name the Goa'uld, particularly Ra, gave to Earth and its inhabitants.

The term "A Tauri" is used both singularly and plurally to denote a human being from Earth within the Stargate universe, often by aliens encountered by SG-1 such as the Goa'uld, Asgard, or Jaffa. While generally encompassing all humans from Earth regardless of nation or origin, the term can sometimes carry connotations of being relatively primitive or less advanced compared to other civilizations in the galaxy, especially early in the series. As the series progresses, the Tauri demonstrate increasing technological prowess and strategic capabilities, earning the respect (and sometimes the ire) of other races. The term can also be used in a neutral or descriptive manner simply to identify someone's origin.
