The Lady in the Car with Glasses and a Gun (1970 film)
The Lady in the Car with Glasses and a Gun is a 1970 psychological thriller film directed by Anatole Litvak, starring Samantha Eggar, Oliver Reed, and John McEnery. It is based on the 1966 novel of the same name by Sébastien Japrisot.
The film follows Dany Longo (played by Eggar), a secretary who drives her boss's car from Paris to the French Riviera. She insists that she has never been to the Riviera before, but as she travels, she encounters people who claim to have seen her there with her boss. Dany also finds a dead woman in the trunk of the car. She becomes increasingly confused and paranoid, questioning her own sanity and trying to piece together what happened. The film explores themes of identity, memory, and the unreliable narrator.
Despite the star power and source material, the film was not well-received by critics upon its release. Some reviewers found the plot confusing and implausible, while others criticized the performances. However, the film has gained a cult following over the years.
A French remake of the film, also titled The Lady in the Car with Glasses and a Gun, was released in 2015, directed by Joann Sfar and starring Freya Mavor.
