Tender Loving Care (video game)
Tender Loving Care is a 1998 interactive movie adventure game developed by Aftermath Media and published by Philips Interactive Media for the CD-i platform and later ported to PC. It gained notoriety for its use of "interactive erotic drama" elements, including nudity and mature themes, and for its utilization of then-novel interactive movie gameplay.
The game's narrative revolves around a troubled family dealing with the recent death of their parents in a car accident. The player assumes the role of a friend offering support, and the gameplay involves making choices in conversations and scenarios that influence the family's emotional state and the unfolding plot. The outcome of the game changes depending on the decisions made by the player.
Tender Loving Care features two distinct versions. The initial CD-i release featured actress Michelle Beauvais in the role of Katherine, the titular caregiver. A later PC version featured Tanya Roberts in the same role. This version often overshadowed the CD-i release due to Roberts' fame from roles in Charlie's Angels and That '70s Show.
The game was controversial upon release due to its adult content and the explicit nature of some scenes. It received mixed reviews, with some critics praising its ambitious interactive narrative and others criticizing its acting, production values, and exploitative elements.
