Teka (cycling team)

Teka was a Spanish professional cycling team that existed from 1977 to 1990. The team was sponsored by Teka, a German manufacturer of kitchen appliances. During its time, Teka was one of the most prominent teams in professional cycling, known for its aggressive racing style and strong riders.

Notable riders who competed for Teka include:

  • Marino Lejarreta: A talented climber and stage race contender.

  • Raimund Dietzen: A consistent performer in Grand Tours.

  • Alberto Fernández: A promising rider whose career was cut short.

  • Eduardo Chozas: A strong climber and stage winner.

  • Eric Van Lancker: A Classics specialist.

Teka achieved considerable success, winning stages in all three Grand Tours (Tour de France, Giro d'Italia, and Vuelta a España) and numerous other prestigious races. They were a consistent presence in the Vuelta a España, often fielding a strong team and contending for the overall victory. The team played a significant role in the development of Spanish cycling during the late 1970s and 1980s.

After the 1990 season, Teka ended its sponsorship of the team, which led to its disbandment. The team's legacy continues to be remembered by cycling fans, and Teka remains a well-known name in the sport.
