USS K-4

The USS K-4 (SS-35) was a K-class submarine of the United States Navy. She was the second ship of the class and was built by Union Iron Works of San Francisco, California. Her keel was laid down on 3 October 1912, she was launched on 19 March 1914, and commissioned on 16 September 1914.

K-4 served primarily in the Pacific Ocean, participating in various training exercises and patrols. During World War I, she patrolled the waters off the Pacific Coast of the United States to protect against potential enemy incursions.

Following the war, K-4 continued to operate as part of the Pacific Fleet. On 12 August 1920, while conducting exercises off the coast of California near San Clemente Island, K-4 sank following a collision with USS R-5 (SS-82). All of her crew were rescued.

K-4 was subsequently raised, but she was deemed beyond economical repair. She was decommissioned on 15 December 1920 and struck from the Naval Vessel Register on 26 January 1921. She was sold for scrap in 1921.
