Tao River

The Tao River (洮河; Pinyin: Táo Hé) is a major tributary of the Yellow River (Huang He) in China. It flows for approximately 673 kilometers (418 miles) through the provinces of Gansu and Qinghai before joining the Yellow River. The river's source is located in the southern Tibetan Plateau, in Qinghai province.

The Tao River's drainage basin covers an area of approximately 25,286 square kilometers (9,763 square miles). The river flows through a mountainous region characterized by deep valleys and canyons. Its waters are used for irrigation, agriculture, and domestic water supply in the surrounding areas.

The river's name, Tao, is believed to originate from the ancient Qiang people who inhabited the region. Historically, the Tao River valley has been an important route for trade and migration. The river also holds cultural significance for the local populations, featuring in folklore and traditional songs.

Environmental concerns affecting the Tao River include soil erosion, deforestation, and water pollution from agricultural runoff and industrial activities. Efforts are being made to protect and conserve the river's ecosystem.
