Bettolle
Bettolle is a frazione (hamlet) of the comune (municipality) of Sinalunga, located in the province of Siena, Tuscany, Italy. Situated in the Valdichiana (Chiana Valley), Bettolle is historically important as a crossroads for trade and transportation due to its strategic position along the ancient Via Cassia.
The village's economy is primarily based on agriculture, including the production of wine, olive oil, and livestock farming, particularly the Chianina breed of cattle, known for its high-quality beef. More recently, tourism has become a significant contributor to the local economy.
Notable features of Bettolle include its historic center, which retains elements of its medieval past, and the annual Mostra Mercato della Chianina (Chianina Cattle Market Fair), a significant event that attracts visitors and buyers from around the world. The fair showcases the Chianina breed and promotes the culinary traditions associated with its meat. The area also boasts several churches and historical buildings, though many have been modified over the centuries.
Bettolle is easily accessible via the Autostrada A1 (Autostrada del Sole), a major highway connecting northern and southern Italy. This accessibility continues to reinforce its role as a crossroads and a point of connection within the region.
