Tandjilé (prefecture)

Tandjilé is one of the 23 prefectures of Chad. Located in the southwest of the country, it is part of the Logone Occidental Region. Its capital is Laï.

Geography:

Tandjilé is situated within the Sudanian Savanna belt of Chad. The terrain is generally flat, characterized by seasonal rivers and floodplains. The climate is tropical, with a distinct wet and dry season.

Demographics:

The population of Tandjilé is primarily composed of various Sara ethnic groups, including the Ngambay, Lele, and Moundang. These groups are primarily engaged in agriculture and livestock raising.

Administration:

The prefecture is further divided into sub-prefectures. The administrative center is located in Laï. Local governance structures are in place, but often face challenges due to limited resources and infrastructure.

Economy:

The economy of Tandjilé is largely based on subsistence agriculture. Key crops include millet, sorghum, groundnuts, and cotton.
