Snood (video game)

Snood is a single-player puzzle video game, first released in 1996 for Macintosh and Windows. It was originally developed by Dave Dobson. The core gameplay revolves around launching colored "Snoods" into a field of other Snoods. When three or more identical Snoods connect, they disappear, clearing space. The goal is to prevent the Snoods from reaching the bottom of the play area, and in many versions, to clear the entire play area.

The game features a variety of Snood types, each with different behaviors, adding layers of complexity to the puzzle. Common Snood types include the standard colored Snoods, stone Snoods (difficult to remove), and bomb Snoods (which clear a large area upon detonation).

Snood gained significant popularity due to its simple mechanics, addictive gameplay loop, and widespread availability, often pre-installed on computers in educational settings. This accessibility contributed to its status as a casual gaming classic. Over time, it has been ported to various platforms, including iOS and Android, ensuring its continued presence in the digital gaming landscape. While newer puzzle games have emerged, Snood remains a recognizable and nostalgic title for many. Different versions and clones of Snood exist, some with modified rules or additional features.
