La Center (sternwheeler)

The La Center was a sternwheel steamboat that operated on the Columbia River and its tributaries in the Pacific Northwest of North America from 1886 to 1905. Built in La Center, Washington, by Captain James W. Troup, she was primarily used as a freight and passenger vessel on the Lewis River, connecting the town of La Center with other communities along the Columbia. She also occasionally operated on the Cowlitz River.

The La Center was known for her shallow draft, which allowed her to navigate the often-shallow waters of the Lewis River, making her a vital transportation link for farmers and businesses in the area. She played a significant role in the economic development of La Center and the surrounding region.

The vessel's career ended when she was deemed no longer suitable for service. The ultimate disposition of the La Center is not well documented, but it is believed she was dismantled or abandoned.
