Standing Committee on Defence (Norway)
The Standing Committee on Defence (Norwegian: Forsvarskomiteen) is a standing committee of the Norwegian Parliament, the Storting. It is responsible for scrutinizing and deliberating on matters related to Norway's defense policy, armed forces, national security, and related topics.
The committee's work includes examining proposed legislation, overseeing the budget allocated to the defence sector, and holding hearings with government officials, experts, and other relevant stakeholders. It also plays a role in ensuring parliamentary oversight of the Norwegian Intelligence Service and other security agencies.
The composition of the committee reflects the political representation in the Storting. Members of the committee are drawn from various political parties, and the committee is chaired by a Member of Parliament typically from a party in the governing coalition or one with significant influence in defence matters. The committee's reports and recommendations contribute to the parliamentary debate and decision-making process on defence and security issues in Norway.
