Southeastern Military Command (Brazil)
The Southeastern Military Command (Portuguese: Comando Militar do Sudeste, CMSE) is one of the eight Military Commands of the Brazilian Army. It is responsible for the land defense of the states of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Minas Gerais. Headquartered in Ibirapuera, São Paulo, it is the largest of the Brazilian Military Commands in terms of personnel and resources due to the high population and economic activity concentrated within its area of responsibility.
The CMSE oversees the activities of numerous subordinate military units, including infantry, cavalry, artillery, engineering, and logistics battalions and regiments. It plays a crucial role in national security, border control, and support to civilian authorities in cases of natural disasters, public security crises, and major events. The Command also conducts military training exercises and collaborates with other branches of the Brazilian Armed Forces and international partners.
The CMSE's mission encompasses a range of activities, from maintaining operational readiness to supporting social and economic development initiatives within its area of operation. It is a key component of Brazil's overall defense strategy and plays a vital role in maintaining stability and security in one of the country's most important regions.
