Sopoty

Sopot (German: Zoppot) is a seaside resort city in Pomerania, northern Poland, located on the southern coast of Gdańsk Bay (part of the Baltic Sea). It lies between the larger cities of Gdańsk to the southeast and Gdynia to the northwest, together forming the metropolitan area known as Tricity (Trójmiasto).

Sopot is known for its sandy beach, the Sopot Pier (the longest wooden pier in Europe), and Monte Cassino Street (Monciak), a pedestrianized thoroughfare filled with shops, restaurants, and entertainment venues. The city also hosts the Sopot International Song Festival, one of the largest music festivals in Europe after the Eurovision Song Contest.

Historically, Sopot was a small fishing village belonging to the Cistercian monastery in Oliwa. Its popularity as a spa town began in the 19th century, attracting visitors from across Europe. After World War I, it became part of the Free City of Danzig. Following World War II, it was incorporated into Poland.

Today, Sopot is a popular tourist destination, drawing visitors year-round for its beaches, spa facilities, nightlife, and cultural events. The city is well-connected by public transport and offers a variety of accommodation options. The architecture of Sopot reflects its diverse history, with a mix of Art Nouveau, interwar modernism, and contemporary designs.
