Sivriada

Sivriada (also known as Öz Ada, meaning "Pointed Island" or "Awl Island") is one of the four smallest islands in the Princes' Islands archipelago, located in the Sea of Marmara, near Istanbul, Turkey. It is geographically the second furthest from the mainland of Istanbul, after Yassıada.

Historically, Sivriada was used primarily for the purpose of housing stray dogs and other animals considered undesirable by the Ottoman authorities of Istanbul. In 1911, approximately 80,000 stray dogs were exiled to Sivriada, many of whom died of starvation, thirst, or as a result of infighting. This event is considered a dark chapter in Istanbul's history and has been the subject of much debate and controversy.

The island is largely uninhabited and lacks permanent settlements. There are no regular ferry services directly to Sivriada, making access more challenging compared to the larger Princes' Islands. The island's landscape is characterized by rocky terrain and sparse vegetation.

While not a major tourist destination, Sivriada holds historical significance and offers a glimpse into a lesser-known aspect of Istanbul's past. Its relative isolation contributes to its tranquil atmosphere, making it a potential destination for those seeking a more secluded experience within the Princes' Islands.
