Paul Spicer (musician)
Paul Spicer is a British choral conductor, organist, and composer, primarily known for his work with choral ensembles and for his advocacy of British choral music, particularly that of the 20th and 21st centuries.
Spicer studied at the Royal Academy of Music, where he focused on organ, conducting, and composition. He has held positions as organist and choirmaster at several cathedrals and churches, including Southwell Minster.
He is the founder and conductor of the Finzi Singers, a renowned chamber choir specializing in English choral music from the late 19th century to the present day. With the Finzi Singers, he has recorded extensively, releasing numerous critically acclaimed albums featuring works by composers such as Gerald Finzi, Ralph Vaughan Williams, and Herbert Howells.
Spicer is also a prolific composer and arranger, particularly of choral works and arrangements of folk songs. His compositions are published by several leading music publishers. He is also actively involved in music education, giving masterclasses and workshops for choirs and conductors. In addition, he has written extensively on choral music and performance practice. His contributions to the field of British choral music have been widely recognized.
