Echo (Marvel Comics)

Echo, also known as Maya Lopez, is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. She is a deaf Native American superheroine with "photographic reflexes," allowing her to perfectly mimic the movements of others.

Publication History:

Created by David Mack and Joe Quesada, Echo first appeared in Daredevil #9 (December 1999). She was initially introduced as a supporting character in Daredevil's storyline and was later revealed to be an adopted daughter of Wilson Fisk (Kingpin).

Fictional Character Biography:

Maya Lopez's father, Crazy Horse, worked for the Kingpin but was killed on his orders. Before his death, Crazy Horse requested Kingpin raise Maya as his own. Kingpin, feeling guilt, fulfilled this promise and raised Maya, believing she was a valuable asset.

Maya is deaf, but possesses photographic reflexes. This allows her to instantly learn and replicate physical actions by observing them, essentially making her a master martial artist, dancer, and pilot by watching others perform. Initially, she was told that Daredevil was responsible for her father's death, leading her to confront him under the alias "Echo." She eventually learned the truth about Kingpin's involvement and turned against him.

Later in her career, she adopted the identity of Ronin, a masked vigilante operating in Japan, as part of the New Avengers team. During this time, she also severed ties with the Kingpin.

Powers and Abilities:

• Photographic Reflexes: Echo's primary ability is her photographic reflexes, also known as taskmastery or the ability to perfectly mimic the actions of others. She can observe a physical activity, no matter how complex, and immediately duplicate it with near-perfect accuracy. This includes fighting styles, athletic maneuvers, dance routines, and even playing musical instruments.
• Deafness: While often perceived as a disadvantage, Maya has adapted to her deafness and utilizes it to enhance her other senses and spatial awareness.
