USS Murray (DD-97)
The USS Murray (DD-97) was a Wickes-class destroyer in the United States Navy during World War I and World War II. Named for Commodore Alexander Murray, she was commissioned in 1918 and served in convoy escort duty during World War I. Following the war, she remained in service with the Atlantic Fleet, participating in training exercises and fleet maneuvers.
In 1922, the USS Murray was decommissioned and placed in reserve. She was recommissioned in 1939 as tensions in Europe rose, serving in the Neutrality Patrol. Following the United States' entry into World War II, she performed coastal patrol and anti-submarine warfare duties along the Atlantic coast. She also escorted convoys to the Caribbean. The USS Murray was decommissioned again in 1945 and subsequently scrapped.
