Sergey Martynov (archer)
Sergey Martynov (born May 18, 1968 in Velizh, Smolensk Oblast, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union) is a Belarusian former rifle shooter who competed for the Soviet Union and later Belarus. He is best known for his accomplishments in the 50 meter rifle prone event.
Martynov represented the Unified Team (former Soviet republics) at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, where he won a bronze medal in the 50 meter rifle prone event. He continued to represent Belarus in subsequent Olympics, winning a bronze medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney and a gold medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. His gold medal in London was particularly notable as he tied the world record with a perfect score of 600 in the qualification round and set a new Olympic record in the final.
Martynov is widely regarded as one of the most accomplished rifle shooters of all time, particularly in the 50 meter rifle prone discipline. He has won numerous World Championships and European Championships medals throughout his career. He retired from competitive shooting after the 2012 Olympics.
