Scott Simpson (golfer)
Scott Simpson (born September 17, 1955) is an American professional golfer. He is best known for winning the 1987 U.S. Open.
Simpson was born in San Diego, California. He turned professional in 1977 and joined the PGA Tour in 1979. His victory at the 1987 U.S. Open, held at the Olympic Club in San Francisco, was his only major championship win. He defeated Tom Watson in an 18-hole playoff.
In addition to his U.S. Open title, Simpson has won six other PGA Tour events, including the Western Open in 1980 and the Kemper Open in 1988. He also has several international victories.
Simpson joined the Champions Tour (now PGA Tour Champions) in 2005. He has won two Champions Tour events: the 2006 Ginn Championship and the 2006 Regions Charity Classic.
Simpson is known for his consistent play and his calm demeanor on the course. He resides in San Diego, California.
