PogChamp
PogChamp is an emote used on the streaming platform Twitch and other online platforms. It is typically used to express excitement, shock, surprise, or hype, often in response to a hype moment occurring on stream or in a conversation. The emote features the open-mouthed expression of Ryan "Gootecks" Gutierrez, a professional fighting game player, from a Cross Counter TV video.
The emote's popularity grew significantly within the Twitch community and became a ubiquitous symbol of enthusiasm and reaction. It's frequently used in conjunction with other emotes and emotes, and within chat messages to add emphasis to reactions.
Due to controversial statements made by Ryan Gutierrez in early 2021, Twitch removed the original PogChamp emote and implemented a rotating system featuring various community members making a similar expression. This was done to disassociate the emote from Gutierrez while maintaining the community's ability to express excitement. Since then, Twitch has re-instated the original Gootecks PogChamp emote but also maintains the option to select from the rotating community versions.
The phrase "Pog" or "Poggers" is often used interchangeably with the PogChamp emote, serving the same purpose of expressing excitement or hype.
