David Dillon (businessman)

David Dillon (born 1951) is an American businessman best known for his long tenure as CEO of Kroger, one of the largest supermarket chains in the United States.

Dillon joined Kroger in 1976, working his way up through various management positions. He was appointed CEO in 2003, succeeding Joseph A. Pichler. During his leadership, Kroger focused on organic growth, strategic acquisitions (including the purchase of Harris Teeter), and improved customer loyalty programs. Dillon emphasized value for customers and employees, focusing on providing a competitive shopping experience and cultivating a positive workplace environment.

He retired as CEO on January 1, 2014, and Rodney McMullen succeeded him in the role. Following his retirement from the CEO position, Dillon served as Chairman of the Board for Kroger until December 31, 2014.

Dillon holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Kansas and an MBA from the same institution. He has been involved in various civic and industry organizations, demonstrating a commitment to community involvement and the broader retail sector.
