Them (King Diamond album)

Them is the third studio album by Danish heavy metal band King Diamond, released in 1988 via Roadrunner Records. It is a concept album centering around a haunted house, family secrets, and the malevolent spirits residing within the house known as "Them."

The storyline follows a young boy named King (based on King Diamond himself), who visits his insane grandmother in a large, old mansion. His grandmother, locked away in her room, is cared for only by her personal maid. King discovers that the grandmother possesses a magical tea set inhabited by supernatural entities called "Them." These entities demand that King drink their tea, initiating him into their dark world and revealing disturbing secrets about his family history, particularly regarding his grandmother and her relationship with "Them." The story explores themes of insanity, family curses, and the corrupting influence of supernatural forces.

Musically, Them is characterized by King Diamond's signature operatic vocals, complex guitar arrangements, and a theatrical atmosphere. The album is considered a classic in the heavy metal genre, particularly known for its intricate storytelling and haunting melodies. It established a high standard for concept albums within the metal community. The album spawned a sequel in 2000, titled House of God, which continues the narrative.
