Almería (Senate constituency)
Almería is a Spanish Senate constituency electing four senators. It is coterminous with the province of Almería. The electoral system uses an open list partial block voting system, where electors vote for individual candidates and the four candidates with the most votes are elected.
The constituency was established in 1977 following the Spanish transition to democracy. Prior to 1977, senators were designated ex officio, appointed or indirectly elected. The constituency has been contested in every Spanish general election since its creation.
The senators representing Almería are elected for a term of four years, coinciding with the term of the Congress of Deputies. As with all Senate constituencies, the composition of the representation in Almería reflects the overall political landscape and shifting party allegiances within the province. Elections are held concurrently with elections for the lower house, the Congress of Deputies.
